Wine and Cheese at Trefethen Vineyards
When I think of northern California I think about the lovely wine country that sits less than an hour away from San Francisco, and while it may attract so many visitors each and every year I stop and ask myself why? The answer is almost as spectacular as the wines.
I had the opportunity this past week to adventure into my backyard ( well my very extended backyard ) I took a friend and we headed up to Napa Valley. HYPE app had arranged an amazing wine and cheese tasting experience for us. If you are not familiar with the app it is a social sharing platform for all the coolest places, coffee shops, wineries, events, concerts, hiking you name it! Definitely check them out. What is also so awesome is that they have a list of experiences each month for both influencers and friends… this was one of them.
Trefethen sits in the lovely valley of Napa, actually just a few miles from downtown Napa which makes it a super convenient location. While we were there we learned all about the history with a private tour of the winery itself. The 400 acres of land has been there since 1886 and the winery has been in business since the 1960’s. With award-winning wines being produced it has really set itself on the map. I love that it is still family owned and run, this brings a unique and happy feel to the place.
Apart from learning all about the beautiful winery we also had the chance to partake in an exclusive wine and cheese tasting class. We learned about all the different cheeses from across America. The class was taught by nonother then well-known cheese expert Jannet Fletcher. It was so wonderful to learn about how all these cheeses are made, most completely by hand, some had hints of chili peppers, some had ash. Every single one paired amazingly with the Trefethen wines which I will get into next!
Of course, if you go to a beautiful winery you can expect amazing wines, this was definitely the case! Each wine is made at the winery with the grapes grown on the property, no second-hand stuff going on there. Straight from the field to the bottle which I love, and you can really taste that in the wines. We sampled a few of their most popular ones, a 2017 dry Riesling which was sweet but very light and a good party starter. On the to the next was a 2015 Harmony Chardonnay with some pineapple flavors which was rich and smooth. I thought this was paired best with the Goat Lady Providence Cheese. But, all in all, my favorite might have to be the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon which was bursting with flavor and complemented almost every cheese on the plate especially the Grafton Village Bear Hill!
I also want to mention that they have a limited Rose too. We got to try it and wow what a lovely taste! that one was called Summer In Napa ( S.I.N. )
All were exquisite to the taste and upheld their reputation.
People say the beauty is in the land, well in this case that was true. This is a fantastic place to stop for a taste of some great wines. If you are planning a trip up to the wine country anytime soon, definitely put Trefethen on your list and you won’t be disappointed!
