This winter was the first time the canals froze in Amsterdam in 10 years. Thousands of local Dutch people managed to pull their ice skates out of their closets and headed out to ice skate. The Amsterdamse Bosbaan, a rowing lake that’s 2200 meters (1.4 miles) long, also froze over and provided a major source of entertainment over the weekend.

Many kids were out skating and playing hockey on their neighborhood canals.

The frozen ice offered a great diversion from the long cold (isolated) winters in the Netherlands. Looking forward to spring tulips on the way!
