One of the biggest ways to eat healthily is to look at your food, where is it coming from? is it in a box? does the mixed berry juice mix filled with added sugars? All of these things are something we don’t always notice, and while we strive to be healthy happy people sometimes, it is hard to find easy ways to eat good food.

Smoothies are a wonder, and they really brighten up my day! In the morning if I am in a rush or just want something simple to drink I’ll make myself a smoothie. Adding fruits and nuts can spice them up in ways that give you more energy throughout the day. In this blog post, I am going to get more in depth about how I make my smoothies and tips to making yummy power boosters to jump start your day!

Here is the basic recipe I use for all my smoothies. Note that this is just a base recipe, I change up the measurements depending on what looks and tastes right.

1 cup milk
1/2 -1 cup of berries
1 banana
1/4 cup of seeds or nuts

Let’s start with the base, and now this can be pretty much anything that is a liquid, most of the time I use either soy milk or orange juice, but this can be substituted for just anything you like, regular milk, hemp milk, coconut milk, or even fruit-based water. The idea is if you have a good base that has some sort of protein then ( like most of those milk have ) then anything you add to that base will double your intake and give you more of a power boost.

Some people like savory smoothies and some people like sweet ones, it is up to you and what you like that will determine which ones you will make. I usually add bananas to give it more texture and fluff. Bananas are super good because they are filled with amazing natural vitamins like vitamin C and more. Pineapples can also be an excellent addition to your smoothie as it makes it more tropical and fun! Sometimes I do a mixture of Almond milk, bananas, pineapple, and some mango. A tropical smoothie si perfect for a summer day!

If you want a super power kick smoothie, then this one is perfect, mixing a cup of milk that has natural protein in it and adding more beautiful things like nuts, and seeds. I love using walnuts because they are easier to grind in a blender, but almonds work just as well. Adding chia seeds, I have found to be a really great source of more protein and vitamins. If you really want more kick then add a scoop or two of a protein powder, although you do have to be careful about which ones you use because contain a lot of added ingredients that are bad, I suggest using a plant based one with no added sugars.. the more natural, the better!

But, because sometimes we want to make smoothies purely because we want a sweet treat then this is the recipe for that! Start with an orange juice base ( this will provide more sweetness ) then try adding a bunch of mixed berries such as blueberries, strawberries, mango, pineapple, blackberries, cherries, and maybe even some raspberries too. You will want to add a banana to give it that thick and creamy texture which will make it almost seem like a sorbet.. and well, it kind of is!

I love to try new things and share recipes with the world, so I hope to continue to explore with new smoothie making ways and finding new ways to incorporate more plant based foods into my daily diet!
